Forest officials dismantle 4 illegal saw mills in Jammu

JAMMU: The State Forest department officials today cracked down on illegal saw mills and dismantled four of them here.

In a operation carried out by a team of Jammu Forest Division led by IFS officer Jyotsana, four illegal saw mills owned and operated by Dev Raj Saw Mill at Baghani, Shiv Shakti Saw Mill at Thathi and Dev Raj Saw Mill at Kangar Chowk were dismantled, a senior official of the Department said.

During the operation, the team was accompanied by Duty Magistrate, Forest Protection Force Personals and Police personnel, he said.

When contacted the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) said that these saw mills were functioning illegally.

“The Saw Mills was functioning at the time of raid and accordingly the Saw Mill were dismantled and sealed in presence of Duty Magistrate, and Police,” he said.

There were resistance from the owners of the illegal saw mills but the situation handled and the parts of saw mill viz Wheel, Blade, (Patta) Belt, Chundi and sawn timber and logs were seized and brought to Forest Complex Gladni Jammu.

The Forest Offence Report (FOR) has been registered against owners of the illegal saw mills for violation of various sections of J&K Forest Act, he said. (AGENCIES)
