Form Advisory Councils for J&K UT: Citizens Forum

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Nov 13: Citizens Forum has demanded formation of two separate Advisory Councils for Jammu and Kashmir UT one for Jammu region and another for Kashmir Valley.
The Forum has made an appeal to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in this regard. The Forum said as from the development scenario of Jammu region it is amply clear that several projects in Jammu region have been ignored by all the successive Governments.
It said the selection of Advisory members should be other than leaders of political parties or members as people of Jammu have seen no tangible performance done by any of them for the last many years. The common citizen is fed up with promises and ill conceived and half done projects taking decades of time and waste of funds. “We have noticed for Jammu region it takes 10 years to sanction a big project and then another 10 years to complete the same. Some projects are left half done in between because there is no body to check the performance and there is also no accountability. R K Chadha president of Citizens’ Forum said that Prime Minister announced AIIMS in 2015 and Rs 2000 crore were sanctioned but not a single penny was spent till date. “We are not against any political party or its leaders as they are elected by the people and will again be elected. We will welcome them but at present during Governor’s rule, give a chance to the educated, high ranking well meaning retired officers selected from different districts of both the regions to form separate Advisory Councils”, he added.
Chadha further said former Governor Satya Pal Malik’s proposals in the mission delivering development campaign, remained in news paper advertisements only and nothing is visible to the naked eye. “We feel the necessity of the construction of an Advisory Council that can fill the political gaps and help the administration and it can further generate a platform for internal dialogue between common people and the Government.
