JAMMU: Former Jammu and Kashmir Minister and senior Congress leader Romesh Sharma today passed away after a prolonged illness. He was 65.
Ex-Congress Minister and famous leader from Nowshera Constituency Sharma passed away while undergoing a treatment at a hospital in New Delhi, party sources here said.
They said the body had been flown to Jammu and taken to his native place in Nowshera, where he will be cremated this evening.
Sharma who was also an Ayurvedic doctor, joined politics before 2000 and won the Assembly elections in 2002.
He remained MoS Commerce and Industries in late Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed’s regime and later as MoS PHE and Flood Irrigation Control in Ghulam Nabi Azad led government till 2008.
“He was not keeping well for the past some time and breathed his last late last night at Medanta Hospital, Delhi,” Ravinder Sharma, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) spokesperson said.
He condoled the demise and expressed grief with the family. (UNI)
