Rajinder Sharma told reporters that services offered by the JMC were at their best till they helmed the affairs of the local body but for the last one and half year, all such services have been badly hit leaving the public to suffer.
“Though the then JMC Councillors had no administrative skills yet still they performed well but all such services are presently seen nowhere though the present officers in the urban local body are well trained and qualified civil servants,” he claimed.
Sharma said that in their tenure over 95000 street lights were installed in total in all the Wards of JMC but today there is no upkeep of these lights.
“The non-functional street lights are not repaired and even the repeated calls to the concerned personnel in this regard receives no response,” he maintained claiming that the top officers in the JMC are working under pressure and there is no cross check on supplying subsidized water tanks to the deserving people.
The former Mayor also said that there is stray dog menace in the city and the people are being bitten by these dogs in all the Wards.
He said that after reorganization the Veterinary Department of JMC got 1 MVO post and 5 posts of Veterinary Surgeons but a man with his wife are occupying two such posts which is in violation of rules.
Sharma also alleged that the Dog Squad of JMC is also not working properly.
He said that they will soon meet CM Omar Abdullah and LG Manoj Sinha with all these issues.
Former Councillor, Gorav Chopra said that they were protesting against the poor work culture of JMC.
“There is poor water and power supply in Jammu but the JMC is raising user charges on their own and the local body has become a hub of corruption,” he further said.
Narotam Sharma, Amit Gupta, Sucha Singh and others were also present in the protest.
