JAMMU, Jan 7: Sunil Sharma, former minister today called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan.
The former Minister apprised the Lt Governor about the welfare issues of Rehbar-e-Khel and Rehbar-e-Janglat appointees, VDC SPOs, National Youth Corps and other issues of public importance.
Later, a delegation of J&K Ex-Services League led by its President Lt Gen RK Sharma (Retd.) submitted a memorandum of demands to the Lt Governor pertaining to the welfare of ex-Servicemen.
Others in the deputation were Col KS Jamwal, Jt Chairman; Col SA Qureshi, Asst Chairman and Lt Col Qshnak Chouhan (Retd), Secretary JKESL.
During the meeting major issues affecting Ex-Servicemen in general and JKESL in particular were projected & explained to the Lt Governor.
The issues projected before the LG included increase in Reservation to Ex-Servicemen in Govt Jobs from 6% to 13% akin to Punjab, earliest foundation of Sainik Colonies being made by JKESL (Rajinder Vihar & Kargil Vihar) by appointment of Nodal Officer, revival, diversification & modernization of Sainik Vanaspati Coop by directions to Secretary Cooperatives, increase in Cash Award, Annuity & Lump sum grant to Award Winners at par with Punjab/HP, renewal of Arms Licences of Ex-Servicemen, VDCs to have minimum 50% Ex-Servicemen, creation of Zorawar Force of ESM directly under control of Army, local units for area domination & patrolling of Jammu Region where peace has been distributed due to recent happenings, creation of Ex-Servicemen Belt along LoC, control of Madrasses to curb Rededication, creation of J&K Heritage Monument and comparing existing Balidan Stambh and integrated Drug Abuse Drive by JKESL with Police, Social Organizations and Education Deptt.
The Lt Governor assured the members of the delegation that all their concerning issues and suggestions would be taken into consideration.
Dr Sandhya Purecha, Chair W20 India (Women-20), an official G20 engagement group focused on gender equity also met Lieutenant Governor.
Dr Purecha shared with the Lt Governor the vision and goals of W20 and efforts to mainstream gender considerations into G20 discussions and translate into the G20 Leaders’ Declaration as policies and commitments that foster gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.
The Lt Governor assured cooperation and support of the UT administration to the W20 in its endeavours towards women-led development and an equal and equitable society.
