Former Minister demands grant of district status to Billawar

KATHUA, Aug 21: Former Minister and President District Congress Committee (DCC) Kathua Manohar Lal Sharma demanded grant of district status of Billawar and also submitted memorandum in this regard to Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Union Minister and Member Parliament.
Manohar said the people of Billawar and Ramkote strongly demand for granting district status to Billawar as it fulfills all the required parameters and criteria for being declared as a district.
“Billawar is approximately 80 kilometers from District Headquarter Kathua, 40 kilometers from Tehsil Headquarter Ramkote and 42 kilometers from Basohli Tehsil Headquarter. Some areas of Bani constituency have route through Billawar and alternative road from Billawar to Bani through Katli Dehrigalla Dhagger and Duggani is under construction and more than 70 to 80 per cent of fair weather road is completed and for remaining construction work is under progress by which Billawar is equally approachable to residents of Duggan and Bani blocks and other areas of Machedi, Godufalal, Badnota, Lohai Malhar of Bani assembly”, he stated.
“Dr SS Billowria Commission has recommended for grant of district status to Billawar”, he said, adding that Government is keen in establishing district at Mahanpur which is totally unacceptableand injustice with peace loving nationalist people of Billawar.
On behalf of the people of tehsils Billawar, Ramkote, Macheedi and Gurah Kalyal, he requested the Governments of Union Territory and Government of India to grant district status to Billawar.
