JAMMU, Apr 22: Former minister and veteran politician, Pt Govind Ram Sharma passed away here today. He was 95.
Sharma breathed his last at 5 pm at his residence at Roop Nagar, in Jammu. His health was normal but facing some old age issues for the past some days.
The family sources said that his cremation will take place at Chandian Ghaat, Akhnoor on Tuesday at 3.00 pm. His mortal remains will be taken to his native village- Maira Mandrian, Akhnoor where the people will pay homage to their leader. People and party activists will also pay homage to the late leader at BJP office, Akhnoor from 12.00 to 2.00 pm tomorrow.
The political journey of Pt Govind Ram Sharma started in 1951 as a Panchayat Member from his village. Throughout his life, he fought for the cause of the needy and down trodden people. He was elected as MLA from Akhnoor Assembly constituency twice in the year 1987 and 1996. He remained Minister of State for Health and PHE from 1996 to 2002 in the Farooq Abdullah led Government. He remained in the active politics for about eight decades and served the people till his last breath.
