JAMMU, Apr 17: Jugal Kishore Sharma, former Minister, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan today.
Sharma discussed various issues relating to people’s welfare and the steps required to be taken for the restoration of peace and normalcy in the State.
Governor stressed the crucial importance of peace being urgently restored in the State and urged Sharma to sustain his initiatives in this regard.
Manohar Lal Sharma, former Ministers also called on Governor and informed him about his views regarding certain important matters concerning the future growth and development of the State, maintenance of security and restoration of peace and normalcy in J&K.
Governor urged Sharma to continue his endeavours for promoting communal harmony and the people’s welfare.
Ashok Kumar, former MLA requested Governor to intervene in various important matters of public interest which had failed to receive the required attention resulting in continuing lack of development in Ramban district.
He demanded urgent release of funds for various infrastructural projects; uninterrupted electricity supply; motorable roads and bridges to connect remote areas; safe drinking water supply, strengthening of health care institutions and filling up of vacant posts in health centres and educational institutions; installation of mini hydroelectric projects along local streams; establishment of a KVK and a Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya at Ramban; interconnected railway network for towns of Ramban, Banihal, Bhaderwah and Kishtwar; direct elections for Sarpanches in Panchayat elections which must be held early.
Assuring support, Governor advised Kumar to continue his endeavours for promoting people’s welfare in his district.
Mohd. Iqbal Lone, Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities also called on Governor and briefed him about the various steps which had been recently taken for alleviating the lot of physically challenged persons.
Referring to the serious difficulties which are continuing to be faced by persons who suffer from varied disabilities, Governor has reiterated his concern about the need for the sustained attention which requires to be devoted for the effective management of the entire disability sector in the State.
In this context, Governor recalled the decisions taken in his several earlier discussions with the Minister for Social Welfare and desired Lone to urgently review their implementation.
