Former MLA demands repair of non-functional hand pumps

JAMMU, July 29: More than 80 hand pumps out of 200 in Ramban constituency are non functional since last 2 to 3 years.
This was stated by Former MLA Ramban Ashok Kumar after inspecting the hand pumps.
Former MLA urged upon the Chief Engineer Jal Shakti Department to get the non-functional pumps repaired immediately in Doda and Ramban districts as people belonging to rural and sub urban areas are facing acute shortage of drinking water.
Ashok said that about 200 hand pumps were installed in Ramban constituency. However, 40 per cent of pumps are non functional and some are totally defunct from last 2 years. Higher concerned authorities are not taking any appropriate measures for repairing these defunct hand pumps, Former MLA said.
“Local people approached several times to concerned authorities but they have not paid any heed towards this problem. It is great injustice to the hilly people belonging to Doda and Ramban districts who are living in difficult times due to non-availability of drinking water”, he stated.
He also stressed upon installation of new drinking water hand pumps in front of every Panchayat Ghar, medical and educational institutions and Anganwari Centres.
He also demanded that Government should take immediate steps to install new hand pumps in both rural and urban areas where there is a acute scarcity of drinking water.
