Former MLA expresses concern over frequent landslides on Karol to Ramban stretch

RAMBAN, Apr 18: Former MLA and senior Congress leader, Ashok Kumar expressed serious concern over the everyday uncontrolled landslides in 2 km stretch of National Highway-44 between Karol to Ramban town.
He said in the construction of four lane highway project the impromptu cutting on the slopes of NH-44 have triggered this unprecedented man-made catastrophe, resulting, many houses in upper peripheral villages of Neera and Ashri where more than thousands population is residing is on the verge of mishap.
He urged upon the J&K Government to provide proper protection and immediate measures like (landslide hazard analysis, afforestation and remote sensing mapping) to control this unprecedented catastrophe so that lives of inhabitants of these areas can be saved.
Kumar emphasised that in the last month more than 35 houses have been collapsed and damaged in Dhalwas (Nashri) in my constituency due to continuous precipitation.
He sought urgent compensation and rehabilitation from the J&K Government for the affected families whose houses have been damaged due to faulty planning in cutting of mountainous slops on the National Highway-44.
“Everyone loves development and construction of roads but the development with unscientific manner in which green cover and mountain’s slopes have been cut ruthlessly is highly vulnerable to the ecosystem,” he said.
