POONCH, July 3: Former Member Legislative Assembly from Surankote, Choudhary Mohd Akram has strongly opposed the opening of wine shop at Potha Bypass near Surankote on Jammu-Poonch highway.
Speaking to the media-persons at his residence in Surankote area today, Ch Akram said that Government has issued license to a person who is even not from our district to open wine shop. “We condemn it and urge Government to take this decision back by cancelling the license to open this shop in our area,” he said.
“As per the Government there are many reasons to open wine shops including growth in economy which will be spent on development but we don’t want such development at the cost of our youth’s health and future who are already depressed because of unemployment,” he added.
Akram said that opening of wine shop on National Highway is the violation of norms as well. “We warn Government not to do this and don’t take our request lightly, though we are peace loving people but if there will be any law and order problem, Government will be responsible for it,” former MLA said.
Meanwhile, locals of the area including several PRI members also opposed opening of wine shop at Potha and held peaceful protest the other day on the highway.
