Former MLA, others condemn Principal’s suspension

LEH, Dec 6: Former MLA and senior Congress leader, Deldan Namgyal has condemned the Hill Council Chairman, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal for instructing Chief Education Officer (CEO) to suspend the Principal of Govt Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Diekit Nubra.
It is pertinent to mention here that GHSS Deskit Nubra invited former MLA, Deldan Namgyal at a function showing him as sitting MLA which led to the suspension of the Principal.
In suspension order CEO stated that Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Leh brought to his (CEO’s) notice that former MLA was invited as chief guest on parents’ day cum farewell party on Nov 30 where invitation cards showed the chief guest as MLA.
The letter also stated that the CEC took serious note of the error and sought an explanation from the CEO following which the Principal was suspended.
The CEO also stated in the letter that the Principal had printed in invitations his (CEO’s) name as Special Guest without his knowledge and so in view of this unilateral decision of the Principal without taking prior approval from CEO, he (Principal) was placed under suspension.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner Leh issued an order stating that CEO is not a competent authority to suspend the Principal without seeking a prior approval from DC or CEO LAHDC Leh office.
In a press conference here today former MLA Deldan said that he was invited by GHSS Deskit Nobra Principal, Tsering Dorjay over a school function to express their gratitude for providing financial assistance of Rs. 43 lakh from CDF and also two councillors were also present as guests of honour.
“But unfortunately Hill Council Chairman was not happy and ordered the CEO to suspend the Principal,” former MLA said adding that this has not only upset entire teaching fraternity but whole of Nubra region and he expressed his gratitude to the DC for keeping the suspension order in abeyance.
The Congress unit of Leh has also condemned the suspension.
Join Director School Education, Tashi Dolma and CEO, Konchok Angmo refused to comment on the development.
All Ladakh Teacher Association Leh President, Dorjay Namgyal said that all teaching community was hurt over the suspension.
The suspended Principal said that entire school staff proposed that the former MLA should be the chief guest.
“All teachers supported me otherwise I would have resigned to fight my case in the court,” said the Principal, Dorjay.
