LEH, Dec 1: A delegation comprising members of Ice Hockey Federation of India led by former Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat.
Advisor to the LG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner/ Secretary to the HLG, Dr L Franklin, and OSD to Secretary, YSS, Vikram Singh Malik, were also present in the meeting.
Former MP Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering, who is also the president of Ice Hockey Federation of India, apprised the LG of the malpractices adopted by Ice Hockey Association of India (IHAI) along with the issues faced by young ice hockey players from Ladakh in applying for posts under sports quota due to the non-recognition of IHAI by the Sports Ministry. He informed the LG about the efforts being made by Ice Hockey Federation of India to rope in as many States from the Himalayan belt under their wing as possible for affiliation and recognition from the Sports Ministry.
Former MP JTN requested Brig Mishra not to fund and support any ice hockey events organised by IHAI in Ladakh. He also asked members of Ice Hockey Federation of India to organise national-level events for the benefit of Ladakhi youth.
Namgyal also requested the LG to declare Bhoti language as the official State language of Ladakh.
Stating that the future of Ladakhi youth who dabble in ice hockey is his main priority, the LG stated that the UT Administration will not support any sports body which jeopardises their future and career. He also informed former MP Ladakh that steps are being taken to recognise the official State languages of Ladakh, including Urdu and Bhoti.
