JAMMU, June 11: RS Pura Police arrested a former Para Commando of Army in shootout case inside court premises in Jharkhand, in which a known gangster and his two associates were killed. However, hunt is going on to arrest two more in-service Para Commandos involved in the case.
As per police sources, RS Pura Police arrested a contract killer involved in the murder of gangster Sushil Srivastava inside court premises in Jharkhand.
The incident took place on June 2, 2015, when Sushil Srivastav, already convicted in a murder case and lodged in Hazaribagh jail, was brought to the court for trial in another case of a criminal offence.
All of a sudden unidentified assailants appeared and fired indiscriminately with AK-47 assault rifles, killing the gangster, a resident of Patratu town, and his two aides who had come for the hearing.
Six years after this incident took place, RS Pura Police finally nabbed the killer behind this murder from the city outskirts in RS Pura.
Investigations reveal that killer is an ex para commando Avtar Singh, son of Naseeb Singh, a resident of Udhampur. He had taken Rs 40 lakh from a rival gangster Vikas Tiwari, to commit the crime.
The contract killer along with one more associate, who is presently posted in Delhi, committed the crime. Sources informed that duo were hired by gangsters because of their sharpshooting skills.
“All attempts by Tiwari to eliminate Srivastava had failed in the past, so this time they did not want to take any chance and therefore decided to hire para commando from Army, who was known for their sharpshooting skills”, sources informed.
The police team from Jharkhand has reached Jammu to take custody of the contract killer to further investigate the matter.
As many as 19 police personnel were suspended in connection with the killings that occurred in the Hazaribagh court premises in broad daylight.
It is pertinent to mention here that Avtar Singh got injured by a bullet in the encounter and bullet mark on his leg was a great evidence for police to zero in on him.
“More arrests in the case can’t be ruled out as joint investigation teams of Jammu Police and Jharkhand Police is connecting different investigative dots to nab more accused”, sources said, adding that hunt for two more in-service para commandos identified as Subash Ghosh of Bengal and Rajeev Charak of Doda is going on.
The arrest was made by SHO RS Pura Inspector Jai Pal Sharma under the supervision of SDPO RS Pura Shabir Khan, SP Headquarters Ramnish Gupta and SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli.
