Former Vice-Chief of Army Lt Gen Sarath Chand joins BJP

NEW DELHI: Giving a boost to BJP’s sustained pro-nationalist and pro-armed forces campaign for 2019 battle, former Vice-Chief of Army Chief Lt Gen (Retd) Sarath Chand joined the saffron party on Saturday in presence of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

”It is very evident, if we look around, BJP is the natural choice of any ‘fauji’ (armyman). I am sure I will try my best to contribute whatever I can,” Lt Gen Chand said at a press conference at the party headquarters here.

”If you ask me what I am expecting, frankly nothing. I just want to be supportive of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party,” he said adding that the country needs a strong leadership at this juncture.

Speaking on the occasion, the External Affairs Minister said it was good that on a festive day like this (Ugadi and Gudi Padwa), that a former army man with vast experience is joining the party. (AGENCIES)
