JAMMU, Nov 16: Fortis Gurugram is committed to delivering world-class healthcare to the patients and supporting the fight against chronic kidney disease by prioritizing prevention and expanding access to advanced treatments.
“The Hospital remains at the forefront of renal care, offering state-of-the-art treatment options and personalized care strategies,” said experts from Fortis Gurugram, Dr Anil Mandhani (Executive Director, Urology and Kidney Transplant) and Dr Gagan Deep Chhabra (Director & Unit Head, Nephrology and Renal Transplant) while sharing their insights during a press interaction at the Jammu Press Club.
They said Fortis Gurugram continues to advocate for early intervention, preventive care, and organ donation awareness to address the escalating renal health challenges in the region, influenced by a combination of regional dietary habits and lifestyle factors.
“The region’s unique challenges stem from poor dietary habits, inadequate hydration, and limited awareness about early symptoms of kidney disease. High salt consumption, common in traditional diets, coupled with insufficient water intake, puts additional strain on the kidneys. Furthermore, the prevalence of conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, significant contributors to CKD, exacerbates the issue. Late diagnosis due to unrecognized symptoms often leads to advanced kidney disease requiring complex treatments, including dialysis or transplantation,” they added.
Dr Mandhani emphasized the importance of preventive measures to combat this rising health concern. “Regular screening, especially for individuals with a family history of kidney disease, hypertension, or diabetes, is crucial. Early detection not only improves treatment outcomes but also reduces the burden on patients and their families.” He further stressed the need for adopting a healthier lifestyle, including proper hydration, balanced nutrition, and routine exercise, to mitigate risk factors.
Dr Chhabra highlighted the transformative role of renal transplantation in treating advanced kidney disease. “Renal transplantation offers patients a second chance at life, significantly improving survival rates and quality of life. This advanced treatment, however, is contingent on the availability of donors.”
