Foundation laid for Kudgi Super Thermal Power Plant

KUDGI, KARNATAKA, June 2: Launching a project that could help supply power to not only energy starved Karnataka, but also the other three states in South India, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) today laid the foundation stone for the producing 2,400 MW Phase I of the Kudgi Super Thermal Power Project in Bijapur district of the state.
Once the two phases of the thermal power plane is completed, it will be the biggest in the whole country producing 4,000 MW of power in once location.
This is the first project NTPC is taking up in Karnataka. The first phase would have three 800 MW units and in the two more would come up in the second phase.
The first stage, that will come up on a 3,000 acre area, is expected to be completed by 2015-16 at an estimated cost of Rs 15,166 crore.
Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, speaking after performing the ground breaking ceremony, said Kudgi was among the nine mega power projects taken up by NTPC which would be completed at the end of the 12th five year plan. (UNI)
