JAMMU, Jan 22: Bahu Fort, Bishnah and Kanachack Police arrested four persons for selling illicit liquor among masses to make illegitimate profits during weekend lockdown, which was announced by the Government to contain the spread of COVID pandemic cases.
As per police sources, on reliable information a team from Police Station Bahu Fort led by SHO Inspector Nayat Ali under the supervision of SDPO East Syed Zaheer Abbas Jafari conducted raid and apprehended two persons with 82 quarters and 12 bottles of illicit liquor.
The arrested persons were identified as Romesh Chander, son of Thinu of Katra District Reasi, at present Nanak Nagar, District Jammu and Sandeep Kumar, son of Romesh Chander of Akhnoor, at present Panama Chowk, District Jammu.
Meanwhile, a team from Police Station Bishnah led by SHO Inspector Vinod Kundal under the supervision of SDPO RS Pura Shabir Khan apprehended a man along with 7 litres of illicit liquor, which he was about to sale among the masses.
The arrested person was identified as Raj Kumar, son of Girdhari Lal, a resident of Kathar, Tehsil Arnia, District Jammu.
In another similar case, a team from Police Station Kanachack led by SHO Inspector Kunal Singh Jamwal under the supervision of SDPO Domana Sunil Singh and SP Rural Sanjay Sharma conducted raid and apprehended a man along with 21 quarters of illicit liquor.
The arrested person was identified as Khegay Lal, son of Aasha Ram of Kharriya, Chhattisgarh at present Purkhoo, District Jammu.
All the four arrested persons were selling the illicit liquor among the masses to make illegitimate profits during weekend lockdown announced by the Government to contain the spread of COVID pandemic.
Cases under FIR Numbers 25/2022, 10/2022 and 9/2022 under Section 48 (a) Excise Act have been registered respectively at Police Stations Bahu Fort, Bishnah and Kanachack and investigation started.
