RAMBAN, June 22: A newborn baby here today died after few hours of his birth at District Hospital Ramban following which four nurses were suspended as parents and other relatives of the deceased baby staged protest.
Sources informed that a baby was born to Monika Devi, 20, wife of Sudershan Singh, resident of Kot Pogal, Ramban after the doctors attending the lady detected some medical issue and opted for caesarean.

They said that the baby was quite well on birth but was put in machine at Neonatal ICU (NICU) where he died after three hours after which his parents and other attendants started protest claiming that the nurses on duty didn’t attended the baby.
Relatives of the deceased child demanded justice and strict action against the erring nurses so that such an incident is not repeated with anyone in future.
Immediately after the incident Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr. Varinder Trisal constituted an enquiry committee to probe the case and ordered suspension of nurses-Sulachana Devi, Mehnaz Banoo, Qurat Ul Nisa and Shabnum Akhter and they were directed not to leave the station.
An order by the Medical Superintendent in this regard also stated that the nurses will remain suspended till the enquiry committee report is not received.
The three member enquiry committee constituted to probe the matter included Dr. Narinder, Paediatrician; Dr. Sayed of Medicine and Dr. Sanjay Bhasin, Causality Medical Officer.
The Committee will submit its report by tomorrow.
