JAMMU, May 11: Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu in collaboration with American Oncology Institute (A01) Jammu & World Cancer Care Charitable Trust organized a free Cancer Screening & General Awareness Camp.
The Medical Camp was virtually inaugurated by Administrative Secretary Health & Medical Education Department Bhupinder Kumar. During his inaugural address, the Secretary Health & Medical Education Department lauded the efforts of Directorate of Health Services, Jammu, Gandhi Nagar Hospital Jammu, American Oncology Institute & World Care Charitable Trust for organizing this camp as a joint venture in fight against cancer.
To tackle problem of cancer, the Govt. of India has established two cancer Institute in Union Territory one each in Jammu region & Kashmir region, he added. OPD & day care Chemotherapy has already been stated at State Cancer Institute Jammu & sooner diagnostic equipments will be available and diagnostic services will be started, he assured.
He further said that in future such cancer screening camps will be organized more frequently. He also appreciated the efforts of private hospitals for bridging gap & providing access of quality health care services to people.
The inaugural lamp was lit by Dr. Rajeev Sharma, Dy. Director (HO) OHS, Or. Parveen Yograj, Medical Superintendent Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu, Dr.Deepak Abrol, Sr. Consultant Radiation Oncology, Or. Surbhi Kudyar, Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon, Dr. Dharminder Dhillon, representing World cancer care Charitable Trust, Ashutosh Gupta, Sr. Manager Marketing (A01) & Tanushree, Dy Manager (A01).
American oncology Institute was led by Dr. Pawan Malhotra, Dr. Neeraj Bishnoi, Regional Chief operating Officer, North Region & Vikrant Thakur, Facility Director Jammu.
The camp was successful and 342 individual were registered, 214 males & 128 females. Mammography was done in 21, I-Scan Breast in 68 & Pap smear in 08 females. PSA test for prostate cancer was done in 50 males, Bone test BMD 280 individuals; Oral screening in 82 persons with positive finding is 12 persons. Also 20 awareness cancer sessions were conducted.
