Free ration, Rs 5000 paid to landslide victims: Minister

Jammu, Apr 3 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mir Saifullah today said free ration and cash relief has been provided to the victims, who suffered some damages due to landslides in Udhampur district.

Replying to a Calling Attention Notice moved by the MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia in the Legislative Assembly, Mr Saifullah on behalf of the Revenue Minister today informed the House that as per the reports received from the Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur some damages were caused in some parts of the district due to landslides and sinking of soil during the intervening night of March 2 and 3, 2013.

“The road in the length of about 600 meter got subsided, out of which 200 meter came under debris and about 60 to 70 kanals of agriculture land having wheat crop got damaged including some fruit bearing trees,” the Minister said.

He said some houses and temple also suffered substantial loss.

“An aerial survey was conducted to assess the situation and it was later decided in a meeting to provide free ration for two months, immediate payment of damages to private property under SDRF and Rs 5000 and one tent and blankets through the Red Cross to the affected families,” he said.

The Government has ensured immediate relief of cash assistance of Rs 5000, free tents, utensils, and blankets to the affected families as an immediate succor, Mr Saifullah said.  (AGENCIES)
