Freight rates up on less availability of trucks

NEW DELHI, May 2:  Freight rates for nine-tonne pay load section improved by Rs 1,000 in the local truck transport market today as truck operators were asking higher rates due to hike in diesel.
Transporters said a hike of Rs 2.37 per litre in diesel prices, mainly weighed on freight rates and prices of diesel in Delhi will be Rs 49.57 from Rs 47.20 a litre.
Delhi to Ahmedabad, Surat and Pune freight rates moved up by Rs 1,000 each to Rs 20,000, Rs 24,000 and Rs 27,000.
Rates to Kolkata, Hyderabad, Goa and Chennai went up by Rs 1,000 each at Rs 28,000, Rs 52,000, Rs 48,000 and Rs 63,000.
Kanpur and Jaipur freight rates also enquired higher by Rs 500 each to Rs 13,500 and Rs 16,500.
