Fresh batch of 7,400 pilgrims leave base camps for Holy cave

SRINAGAR :  A fresh batch of about 7400 pilgrims left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for the Holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, where more than 1.25 lakh yatris have darshan of the self- made Ice-Shivlingam since the commencement of the pilgrimage from June 28.
About 6,000 pilgrims, who had night halt at different halting stations on traditional Pahalgam route,including Chandanwari, the last mortorable point, also left for the cave shrine early this morning.
A yatra official said pilgrimage was going on smoothly.
There is a forecast for rain or thundershowers with cloudy weather on both routes from base camps.
He said 4,774 pilgrims, including 1,157 women and 19 sadhus left Baltal base camp since early this morning till 0900 hrs. Pilgrims reaching the camp till 1100 will be allowed to proceed towards the cave shrine from this shortest route, he said, adding that the gate will be closed and nobody will be allowed to move towards the shrine after 1100 hrs as directed by the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).
He said 2,601 pilgrims also left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for next halting station, Chandanwari, on traditional route. However, some of them will continue their journey to have night halt at next station.
Altogether 3,780 pilgrims, who had night halt at Chandanwari, also left for the Holy Cave.
