SRINAGAR: Fresh overnight landslides disrupted traffic on the national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country on Saturday morning while there is no possibility of reopening of Srinagar-Leh, historic Mughal road and Badipora-Gurez road before April due to accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions.
There were fresh landslides at Magarkote, Ramsu, on Srinagar-Jammu national highway due to which traffic from both sides was suspended, a traffic police official said.
However, he said, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, put into service sophisticated machines and men and cleared the road. He said initially, only one-way traffic was allowed in the area where landslides had occurred.
He said now Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) traffic has been allowed from both sides with some restrictions while Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV) will continue to ply one-way only.
The Kashmir-bound light motor vehicles will have to cross Nagrota between 0600 hrs to 1000 hrs, he said, adding that similarly, Jammu-bound LMV have to cross Qazigund between 0700 hrs to 1400 hrs. He said HMV traffic will ply from Srinagar to Jammu on Saturday and no heavy vehicle, including security force convoy, will be allowed to ply from opposite direction. Jammu-bound HMV traffic will be allowed to cross Qazigund by 0700 hrs and Jawahat tunnel before 1230 hrs.
The road from Bandipora to border town of Gurez remained closed due to accumulation of about two feet snow on Razdan top. There is very less chance of allowing traffic on the road before April. (AGENCIES)
