SRINAGAR : Traffic on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was disrupted for several hours this morning due to fresh landslides.
Traffic on the highway was disrupted early this morning due to fresh landslides at Ramsoo, a traffic police official said.
He said the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and other agencies, responsible for the maintenance of the highway, immediately put in to service sophisticated machines and men and cleared the landslides, caused due to widening of road. Traffic was resumed after several hours disruption, he said.
However, he said, the light vehicles will ply from both sides, while heavy traffic will continue to ply one-way till further orders.
”We allowed light vehicles from both Srinagar and Jammu after clearance of the landslides on the highway, he said, adding that heavy vehicles will ply from Srinagar to Jammu.
Hundreds of vehicles, carrying fruit and vegetables besides empty oil tankers left different parts of the valley for Jammu today.
Heavy vehicles will be allowed from Jammu to Srinagar tomorrow and no vehicle, including the Army and other security agencies will be allowed from opposite direction.
Meanwhile, traffic on national highway, linking Ladakh region with Kashmir and 86-km-long historic Mughal road, are through for traffic with some restrictions.
Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region is seen as alternative to Srinagar-Jammu national highway. (AGENCIES)
