Fresh snowfall in hills

SRINAGAR, Apr 22: Amid rains in plains and snowfall over higher reaches, night temperature dropped below normal across Kashmir today.
The Meteorological Department has forecast cloudy weather at most places in Kashmir with intermittent light rain or snowfall over higher reaches.
An official of the department said that widespread light to moderate rain, thunderstorm and hailstorm occurred at some places and snowfall over higher reaches during the last two days in J&K.
“Weather (is) most likely to remain cloudy at most places of J&K with intermittent light rain/snowfall over higher reaches,” he said, adding, “expect, gradual improvement from this evening.”
He said that there is forecast of any major rain during next week but “a brief spell of occasional light rain with thunderstorm can’t be ruled out at some places.”
Meanwhile, Srinagar, received 10.3 mm overnight rain and recorded a low of 8.6 degree Celsius temperature against 10.0 degree Celsius the previous night. The temperature was 0.3 degree Celsius below normal for this time of the year.
Qazigund received 23.2 mm of rain during the time and recorded a low of 5.2 degree Celsius against 8.2 degree Celsius the previous night. The temperature was below normal by 2.3 degree Celsius for the town.
Kokernag had 16.2 mm of rain during the time and recorded a low of 4.1 degree Celsius against 8.0 degree Celsius the previous night. It was 3.5 degree Celsius below normal during this time of the season for the place.
Pahalgam had 18.6mm of overnight rain and recorded a minimum of 2.0 degree Celsius against 8.6 degree Celsius last night. The temperature was 2.0 degree Celsius below normal for the place.
Gulmarg received 15.4mm of rain and recorded a low of 0.0 degree Celsius against 2.0 degree Celsius the previous night. While 3.3 degree Celsius is normal for the world famous skiing resort during this time of the season. The temperature was 3.3 degree Celsius below normal for the place.
Kupwara town in North Kashmir received 2.2 mm of rain during the time and recorded a low of 8.1 degree Celsius against 8.4 degree Celsius on the previous night. The temperature was 0.5 degree Celsius above normal for the district.
