Fresh snowfall in hills, rains lash Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 5: Kashmir valley was lashed by rains while hills received fresh snowfall today leading to the drop of mercury by several notches.
The snowfall in the hills started last night and it was snowing till this evening. The hills of North Kashmir received several inches of snow while Sadna and Razdhan passes received around one feet of snow.
Director Meteorological department Kashmir, Sonum Lotus, today said that there is no forecast for any major snowfall as the weather will improve from tomorrow and from November 6 to 20, the weather will mostly remain dry.
He said that as predicted, light to moderate snow and rainfall occurred since late last night and also continued since morning in parts of North Kashmir and extreme west in Ladakh region. Click here to watch video
Lotus said that light and moderate snow and rainfall occurred in North Kashmir particularly Gurez and Machil Sector and Zojila-Drass axis.
He said that it will intensify till evening and most of the plains in Kashmir will also receive rainfall, while upper reaches of Kashmir will receive moderate snowfall.
“However, there is no prediction for any major snowfall and the weather will improve from tomorrow onwards. From November 6 to 20, the weather will mostly remain dry,” Lotus said.
He also said that there will be major increase in day temperature, however, night temperatures will fall by 2-3 degrees in the coming days.
Authorities today closed 85-km-long Bandipora-Gurez road for vehicular movement after fresh snowfall at Razdan Pass.
The snowfall in the area started late last night.
An official said that due to fresh snowfall in Gurez and at Razdan Pass, the only road link connecting Gurez with rest of the world has been closed for traffic movement.
They said that light snowfall was also witnessed in other hilly areas of this North Kashmir district, while plains received rainfall.
In view of fresh snowfall and slippery condition of roads, the authorities in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district directed to restrict traffic movement from to border areas in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner Kupwara directed to restrict traffic movement from both sides to border areas in the district including Keran, Karnah, Machil, Jumagund, Budnambal and Kumkadi.
