SRINAGAR : The upper reaches in the Kashmir valley, including holy Amarnath cave shrine, received fresh snowfall while second phase of Gandola Cable Car (GCC) in world famous ski resort of Gulmarg was closed following heavy rain and thunderstorm. Official sources said all peaks around Sonmarg in Ganderbal district had turned white due to fresh snowfall. Baltal, base camp of annual Amarnath yatra, commencing from July 2, surroundings also received snowfall.
The holy Amarnath cave shrine and its adjoining areas also received fresh snowfall while reports of snow were also received from Sheshnag, Mahaguns, Pisso top and Panjterni.
Pahalgam received heavy rains during the past 24 hours.
A tourist official told over phone from Gulmarg that second phase of the GCC has been closed because of rain and thunderstorm. It has been closed as a precautionary measure. However, the first phase upto Kongdori was in operation. (AGENCIES)
