SRINAGAR, Apr 15:
World famous health resort of Sonmarg and some other upper reaches received fresh snowfall while rain lashed plains in Kashmir valley, resulting in dip in the day temperature.
Meanwhile, the night temperature dipped though remained above normal at most places in the valley, where there is a weather prediction during which isolated thundershowers with lightning, hail and gusty winds (30-40 km per hours) would occur today.
A Met Department spokesperson said that light rain and thundershowers would occur during the next 24 hours at many places in the Valley under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which is active in the region.
He said there will be slight improvement in the weather tomorrow. But, he said there is another weather warning on Friday and Saturday due to a fresh WD, which originated from the Arabian sea and is approaching the region though Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Fresh snowfall was witnessed in Sonmarg and other upper reached in central Kashmir district of Ganderbal following which Srinagar-Leh national highway was closed today.
Meanwhile, incessant overnight rain lashed summer capital, Srinagar, resulting in dip in the night temperature, which was still 2 degree below normal. People woke up to a rainy Wednesday morning in the city. As the day progressed, sun came out from behind the clouds. But, the weather again turned cloudy in the evening in the city, where people remained indoors in view of Coronavirus lockdown.
The night temperature in world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, dipped due to incessant overnight rain. Against 2.5 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature in the ski resort was 0.5 degree, which is a degree below normal. The weather in Gulmarg remained rainy and damp throughout the day.
Incessant intermittent rain also lashed out parts of the Valley, where the night temperature dipped and settled at 7.9 degree and 9.1 degree in Kupwara and Kukernag, respectively.
However, there was improvement in the night temperature in world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, due to overcast conditions. Against 5.2 degree recorded yesterday, the night temperature in the resort was 6.6 degree, which is over 3 degree above normal. (UNI)
