NEW DELHI: Expressing India’s desire for a peaceful and friendly relationship with Pakistan, Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar said friendship could not be held in the “shadow of violence”. “We have been desiring a peaceful and friendly relationship with Pakistan ever since this Government came to power at the Centre. This was reflected in Prime Minister Narendra Modi inviting Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif to his swearing in ceremony.
“This has not changed over the last two and a half years. Despite the developments of the last few months, efforts to revive the relationship with Islamabad still persist. However, you cannot have friendship in the shadow of violence,” Mr Akbar told a press conference on the initiatives by his Ministry over the last year.
Calling upon Islamabad to stop its activities of aiding terror from across the border, Mr Akbar said, “People who are indulging in terror have to stop. Only then can there be talks between the two countries.” (AGENCIES)
