Fruit growers seek special compensation package

SRINAGAR, Sept 25: Assuring hassle free transportation of fruits to outside Mandies, Secretary Horticulture, Sanjeev Verma while chairing a joint meeting of officers and fruit growers here today said that instructions have already been issued to the transport and traffic authorities to facilitate hassle free movement of trucks on National Highway. He said each day hundreds of trucks are moving out from Valley and other parts of the State.
Mr Verma said majority of the fruit Mandies have been made operational besides measures have been taken for dewatering and cleaning up all the affected mandies.
He said directions for immediate assessment of the loss to fruit industry have already been issued and department is keenly monitoring the situation due to recent floods which like many other sectors also severely affected the horticulture sector.
Demanding special compensation package, the fruit growers and traders said that Government should provide full support to the fruit industry at this juncture.
