FSD seals 2-sweets shops in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Nov 8: The Food Safety Department Kashmir today sealed two sweets and bakery manufacturing units and seized 1.5 quintals of sweets during a surprise raid in Srinagar.
A spokesperson from the department said that a team from the Food Safety Wing of the Drugs and Food Control Organization, Kashmir, comprising the Intelligence Cum Legal Cell and Food Safety Wing Srinagar, conducted surprise inspections in the Bemina, Qamarwari, and Dalgate areas.
They discovered that two sweets and bakery manufacturing units were operational in contravention of the provisions of FSSA 2006. “These units were manufacturing bakery and sweets items under unsanitary and unhygienic conditions, leading to the sealing of both units. Additionally, 1.5 quintals of sweets were seized, and samples were sent to the Food testing laboratory for quality and safety testing,” he said.
He said that these raids will continue in the coming days, especially in view of the festive season, to ensure that quality sweets and other food items are available to consumers.
