JAMMU, Oct 14: OBC Mahasabha, Jammu has appealed Governor Satya Pal Malik to fulfill its commitment to extend 27 percent reservation to OBCs of J&K state.
The appeal was made by the members of the Sabha during a meeting held under the chairmanship of Kasturi Lal Basotra. President, All J&K Kashyap Rajput Sabha, Murari Lal Balgotra was the chief guest on the occasion.
Addressing the meeting, Mohan Lal Pawar, general secretary of Mahasabha, said that the OBCs of the State have been deprived of their fundamental right of reservation by the State rulers since independence. He said as promised after abrogation of Article 370 (on August 5, 2019) that J&K OBCs will get their due share of reservation (27%) in J&K Government services on October 31, 2019, the date on which the J&K will start functioning as Union Territory, Government of J&K should fulfill its commitment.
Sumitra Devi, president, Bowria Biradari, said that a detail memorandum in this connection was submitted by Mahasabha chairman Kasturi Lal Basotra to Chairman of National Commission for Backward Classes, New Delhi for due consideration.
Bashir Ahmed Salaria, senior leader of Dhobi community said that the J&K Government is following Supreme Court (SC) Judgment dated 16-11-1992 on Mandal Commission Report and simultaneously following Justice Anand Committee Report-1978, which the law does not permit as the Judgment of SC on Mandal Commission Report has become a uniform affirmative law for the entire country.
