Furnish details of cases against politicians, officials: Speaker

SRINAGAR, Oct 4: Speaker of the Assembly, Mohammad Akbar Lone, today directed the Government to furnish details of the politicians, bureaucrats and police officers against whom the cases are pending in Judicial and Revenue courts.
While replying to a question posed by the PDP MLA Choudhary Zulfikar Ali, Minister of State for Revenue (MoS), Ejaz Ahmad Khan, told Assembly that more than 60,000 hectares of State land was under illegal occupation across the State and efforts are on to retrieve it from the occupants. But he had no information about the encroachments made by the politicians, bureaucrats and police officers and pending Judicial and Revenue cases against them in the courts.
The Speaker while deferring the question asked the Minister to use his resources and collect all the details regarding the encroachments of the State land by the politicians, bureaucrats and police officers and furnish it before the House.
The Minister in his reply while giving district wise details said, in Anantnag 33710 kanals, in Budgam 46188 kanals, Bandipora 46920 kanals, Kupwara, 52325 kanals, Pulwama, 41011 kanals, Kulgam, 14533 kanals, Ganderbal, 14533 kanals, Baramulla, 90244 kanals, Srinagar, 42977 kanals, Shopian, 42977 kanals, Rajouri, 392155 kanals, Ramban, 109628 kanals, Reasi, 155126 kanals, Kishtwar, 72521 kanals, Samba, 97113 kanals, Udhampur, 32971 kanals, Doda, 28537 kanals, Poonch, 118237 kanals, Jammu 27016 kanals and in Kathua, 24299 kanals land has been encroached.
The Minister said that department has lodged cases against them under Jammu and Kashmir land Revenue Act.
The opposition legislators leveled accusation against State Government for protecting the politicians, bureaucrats and senior police officers involved in encroaching State land. The legislators stressed upon the State Government to reveal the names of the senior Government officials involved in encroachment of State land.
The Minister tried to pacify the House and said that there is no record available with the Revenue Department or designations of the encroachers. The Speaker intervened and directed the Minister to come up with the details in the State Assembly.
The Minister said that 54,136 kanals of the State land has been transferred under Roshni Act in Jammu division, while in the Kashmir valley the land transferred is 6,223 kanals.
The Minister said that quantum of land approved by the committee and yet to be transferred to the occupants in Jammu division is 2, 12,667 kanals and in Kashmir valley, 2,4964 kanals and 15 marlas. He said that there are still a large number of applications pending with the department under the Act.
