Srinagar, Nov 29; The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti today said that students of SKUAST booked under UAPA must be given an opportunity so that their future is not spoiled.
Speaking to reporters after a workers’ meeting at Zainapora Shopian, Mufti said that if PM Modi was laughing when Australia won the ICC World Cup then what is wrong if Kashmir students appreciated Australia for playing good cricket.

“SKAUST students haven’t done anything wrong and still they have been booked under UAPA and action must be taken against the student who has used derogatory language. But all of them must be given single opportunity so as to save their future,” she said
She said that people of Kashmir continue to suffer from the wrong policies of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government and despite having their own power, there is no electricity in the Valley.
She said that despite snatching everything from J&K, the BJP continues to have doubts on people of Jammu and Kashmir which shows their insecurity.
Earlier during her address to the rally, Mufti slammed the BJP for its “oppressive tactics” in Kashmir. She said that they are a reflection of the party’s deep insecurities and its realization of its failures in the region.
Mufti asserted that the BJP’s policy of humiliating and suppressing Kashmiris is only adding to the alienation of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The only way to bring about lasting peace in J&K is through reconciliation and meaningful engagement that honors the dignity of the people of J&K. The Jackboot approach and attempts to silence the aspiration of people by suppression and muzzling of the people hasn’t worked in the past and is bound to fail now. As is evident, even after almost 8 decades of accession, Delhi looks at Kashmiris with suspicion,” she said.
Mufti further asserted that the fountainhead of the problems in J&K is the desire and aspiration of its people for peace with dignity.
“The era of Mufti Sayed at the helm of affairs is termed as the golden era because he believed and knew that in J&K development sans peace with dignity won’t make the desired difference. His focus on reconciliation and dialogue led to historic developments in the context of the resolution of problems in J&K that were otherwise seemingly impossible,” she added.
Emphasising that the people’s will has to ultimately prevail, Mufti urged for unity among people in the struggle for rights, dignity, and aspirations of the masses of J&K.
