“This critical infrastructure ensures unhindered traffic flow, significantly reducing travel time and congestion for both tourists and Defence vehicles en-route to the Kashmir valley. Beyond improving regional connectivity, the bypass strengthens national security logistics and enhances tourism prospects in the region.”
Post further read, “under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this transformative project contributes to economic growth while elevating Jammu & Kashmir’s status as a premier tourist destination.”
Project Director, National Highway, Ramban Sector, P K Phonsa said that the Union Road Transport & Highways Minister also declared opening of this Bypass road in Banihal through e-mode. He said after this ceremony, the traffic on Banihal Bypass road was released today.
Replying to a question, NH Project Director said for about two weeks the traffic will be allowed to ply on double lane on this section. For the junction (Rotary) development near Railway Station Banihal and about two and half kms earlier, about two weeks time is required.
“We have sought about two weeks time for the completion of junctions from the Administration. As they are completed, the traffic on all the four lanes will be released on this nearly 2.35 kms stretch. Only this bottleneck had been left on the entire National Highway. It will ease traffic flow in Banihal town now. Ramban Bypass stretch has already been completed,” Phonsa added.
He further said the project was started in January 2021 and was scheduled to complete in December 2023, but the project was delayed by one year due to various reasons.
Project Director said the Banihal Bypass started from Kharpora to Navayuga Tunnel will bypass Banihal town and reduce routine traffic congestion on old alignment of Srinagar- Jammu National Highway.
