JAMMU, May 2: Police today arrested National Conference leader and former MLA from RS Pura, Gagan Bhagat from near the High Court road at Janipura when he was reportedly heading towards the court to seek bail in a case registered against him at RS Pura police station on the basis of complaint lodged by Sarpanch, Seema Kumari.
A police party from RS Pura and Bishnah police station was following Bhagat and arrested him at High Court road. He was shifted to Bishnah police station and lodged there though a case was registered against him at RS Pura police station under First Information Report (FIR) No. 66/2019 and Sections 323, 341 and 354-B.
Police said there was a provision to lodge a person in any police station irrespective of the fact that FIR was registered against him in another police station.
A complaint against Bhagat was registered by Sarpanch Seema Kumari in RS Pura three days back after both had entered into heated exchanges on the issue of installation of electric transformer in the village.
Till the reports last came in, Bhagat had been lodged at Bishnah police station in the absence of any bail.
Gagan Bhagat, it may be mentioned had won RS Pura Assembly seat in 2014 on the BJP mandate but was expelled by the party last year after his domestic dispute had surfaced in public through social media.
Bhagat had later joined the National Conference.
