JAMMU, Mar 2: Plastic industry in a bid to make Delhi the biggest distributor of plastic items has chalked out a strategy by holding an exposition.
The public sector undertaking Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) has taken up the project where industry players and technology experts will be brought under one roof at the four-day long Gail Plastasia Expo 2016 beginning here from tomorrow at New Delhi.
Vijay Chhokar, Chief Manager Marketing, GAIL, said, “We are trying to provide a unique experience. Efforts have been put in place to showcase the positive side of the growing industry”.
Rupesh Kumar of GAIL said “Delhi along the NCR regions are in a growing phase and are facing significant change in lifestyle and in turn growth of domestic end uses industries”.
A total of 33 domestic as well as foreign companies were expected to participate at this year’s exposition. Cyril Pereira, MD Triune-organisers of Gail Plastasia, said, “Increasing urbanization, changing lifestyle are some of the factors promoting the opportunity of downstream plastics especially in Northern Indian States and nearby States of Bihar and Jhatkhand. The lack of processing industries presents a huge unmet potential. So we aim to capture this market”.
Presently, this industry is providing jobs to nearly 4 million people and created export opportunity for 2000 exporters. Around 30,000 processing units are presently working in the country of which around 90 per cent are in the small and medium sector.
Girish Handigol of Toshiba said the decision to hold an exhibition in Delhi will add to the better prospects of growth for the industry. Participants and visitors both will be benefited, he added.
This is the one and only exhibition that would help us to create market, said Gail-Plastasia participant and Director of BS Technology Balraj Singh.
Admitting the contribution of the e-commerce, MD Hind Plastic said, “There is no two opinions about the growth and reach of electronic market and we have hugely benefited from it. Also, it has encouraged young minds to join and contribute”.
