JAMMU, Feb 21: Former Advisor to the Governor Khurshid Ganai will be new Chief Information Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources told EXCELSIOR that committee headed by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and comprising former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh unanimously cleared the name of Khurshid Ganai for the post of Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) today.
“Now, the Government will formally write to the Governor for appointment of Khurshid Ganai as Chief Information Commissioner”, sources said.
It is pertinent to mention here that under J&K Right To Information Act, Governor has the powers to appoint the CIC and Information Commissioners on the recommendations of the committee headed by the Chief Minister.
“The decision about new Information Commissioners will be taken by the Government after sometime”, sources informed.
