Srinagar, June 1: The Cyber Cell in Ganderbal has solved online money scams, recovering money in lakhs, and has also traced nearly 16 missing smartphones worth lakhs.
A police official said that the Cyber Cell Ganderbal received reports from the general public about various online money scams and missing cell phones through the online Cyber Crime Portal and offline mode since its establishment in February this year.
On the directions of SSP Ganderbal Sandeep Gupta, the Cyber Cell Ganderbal has so far solved a significant online money scam fraud, “putting on hold Rs.6,20,000 and refunding Rs. 39,900 to the victim’s account.”
The police also recovered 16 lost smart cell phones worth lakhs and 6 hacked social media accounts.
The unit comprises Executive Police officials and Telecom officials who are well-trained in dealing with various financial frauds such as KYC update fraud, OLX fraud, PDD fraud (pending electricity bill fraud), investment-related fraud, fake loan app fraud, and social media blackmailing.
“Police have requested the general public not to share bank details, account details, OTP, etc., and to be alert and vigilant when sharing any kind of personal details with anyone,” the police statement said.
Later in the day, SSP Ganderbal addressed a press conference, where he briefed the media and lauded the efforts of the Cyber Cell. He also advised people to remain cautious and not share crucial financial details with anyone.
