JAMMU, Sept 30: On the eve of 154th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, different Schools and Colleges across Jammu region celebrated Gandhi Jayanti programmes here today.
Government College for Women Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu has organised valedictory function after the culmination of the series of month long activities being organised to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti under the patronage of Dr. Meeru Abrol, Principal of the College. Students participated enthusiastically and wholeheartedly in a round of discussion on the topic “Gandhi’s Contribution to Indian Education”.
In continuation to the series of activities being organized under “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign initiated by the Government of India to promote the importance of cleanliness and sanitation in the country and to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti 2023, the NSS Unit (KHIDMAT) of Government Degree College Vijaypur in collaboration of IQAC under the aegis of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and Bhrashtachar Mukt J&K organized a cleanliness drive inside the college premises under the guidance of Principal, Dr. Vandana Gupta.
Government Degree College, Kunjwani organised a one-day programme on Mahatma Gandhi ‘An Exponent of Truth, Non-Violence and Tolerance’. Aim of the programme was to honour the Legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. The programme was held under the patronage of Principal, Dr. Ravinder Kumar Tickoo.
To celebrate Gandhi Jayanti, Literary Committee and Department of Botany in collaboration with NSS unit of Government Degree College, Sidhra under the aegis of IQAC organized a Quiz Competition on “Life of Mahatma Gandhi”. A total of six shortlisted students, Rishab Singh of B.A Semester-III was declared the winner.
Shanti Yatra (Peace March) which was flagged off from Poonch on 9th September in connection with the celebrations of 154th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was received by Chief Education Officer, Suraj Singh Rathore at Kaluchak (Parmandal) here today. The Yatra will culminate on 2nd October in Government College of Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
A series of activities were organized in Government Degree College, Mahanpur (Kathua) to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti on the theme of “Truth and non violence”. All these activities were organized under the guidance of the Principal of the college, Dr Sangeeta Sudan.
Government Degree College, Kathua concluded two-week long Gandhi Jayanti celebrations. Principal, Prof. Seema Mir was the chief guest and Prof. (Retd) Saroop Chander was the guest of honour on this occasion.
Shikshit Bharat Committee of Government Degree College, R. S. Pura organized an exhibition of items crafted by students of the college under the patronage of Principal, Dr. Rajni. The event was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Renu Sharma (Convener, Shikshit Bharat Committee) marking the culmination or valedictory ceremony of a series of activities conducted as part of Gandhi Jayanti celebrations.
Department of History in Government Degree College, R S Pura organized a seminar on the theme “Truth and Non-violence” under the patronage of Principal, Dr. Rajni Bhagat. The programme was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Savtanter Kour, HoD of History.
Government Degree College Ramgarh organized a screening of a slide show on Sabarmati Ashram on ‘Society and Truth’ to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti. The event was organized by Prof. Risha Kumari under the guidance and coordination of Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, Principal of the College.
Government Degree College, Nowshera organized an ‘earning while learning’ event for the students as a part of Gandhi Jayanti celebrations. The Department of Botany and NSS Unit organized the event in which students made home decors, flower vases, pen stands, dustbins and many kinds of decorative items.
Government Degree College Ramnagar organizes an intra-college symposium to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti celebrations under the guidance of Dr Bhavnaish Chand, Principal GDC Ramnagar. Around 14 students participated in which Monalika Sharma, B.A semester (V) stood first, Ankush Klotra, B.A semester (V) stood second and Shivani Thakur, B.A semester (III) stood third.
History and Department of Political Science of the Government Degree College, Paloura held a series of programmes in connection with Gandhi Jaynati celebrations in which various students participated in different activities in the college under the guidance of Principal, Dr. Ashu Vashisht.
Dewan Devi Higher Secondary School, Rajpura celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with great gaiety. Students attired in colourful dresses, presented various cultural activities. Chairman, Subhash Chander Suri, along with management briefed students about the importance of the day.
Playway House Higher Secondary School, Jammu organized a cleanliness drive at Shaheedi Smarak, Akalpur on Gandhi Jayanti. The academic Director of the schools said, “The cleanliness drive is homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth Anniversary. It is a practical demonstration of his teachings about cleanliness and sanitation.”
Rich Harvest School Management and Staff paid rich tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and India’s second Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries. During the occasion, students were enlightened about Mahatma Gandhi’s role in obtaining Independence from the shackles of British rule.
NSS Unit of Sai Shyam College of Education along with its experimental School celebrated Gandhi Jayanti in the campus. Chairman, C. L. Tickoo was the chief guest on the occasion. Principal, Dr. Usha Tickoo, threw light on Gandhian principles and non-violence approach to achieve our goals.
Kowal National Institute of Teaching, Bharat Nagar, celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti with great fervour. A Cultural programme comprising bhajans and speeches was presented by the students of 9th and 10th classes. It was followed by a cleanliness drive where not only the students but also the whole administration and teacher of KNIT contributed towards cleanliness as ‘Shramdaan’. Principal Bimla Blawria encouraged the students to follow cleann habits to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhiji.
Director Prof. J.L Kotwal guided the students by narrating Gandhiji’s childhood incidents. He impressed upon to follow the principles of truth and non- violence. He also threw light on the resourceful life of our 2nd Prime Minister Shastriji. We should follow these great Indians so that we may serve our nation in its rapid progress.
