JAMMU, Oct 2: Gandhi Jayanti was today celebrated across the J&K State where different organizations paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi National Services Scheme (NSS), Campus Units organized a one day workshop in collaboration with Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), University of Jammu on the topic ‘Gandhi, Students and Swachhta’. Prof. Rajni Kant, Director DDE was the chief guest. The workshop was attended by 150 NSS volunteers from PG Distance Education, regular departments of the University and senior NSS volunteers. Dr Seema Rohmetra from the Department of Political Science and NSS Programme Officer was the key resource person in the inaugural function. She enlightened the gathering on Mahatma Gandhi’s life, his social works and efforts to inculcate the ‘Dignity of Labour’ in the Indian society. Dr Sapna Sangra, Assistant Professor Department of Sociology conducted second interactive session. A documentary on Gandhi’s vision of Swachhta was also screened on this occasion.
Gandhi Memorial College of Education, Raipur, Bantalab celebrated Gandhi Jayanti where floral tributes were paid to the Father of Nation.
