JAMMU/SRINAGAR/ LEH, Mar 16: A woman hailing from Gandhi Nagar in Jammu district today died of COVID-19 just 12 days after her husband succumbed to the virus while 19 persons tested positive in the region including a student of Kasturba Gandhi Boarding School at Jathi, Doda along with her three family members after which all students and staff members have been quarantined in the school hostel.
A 59-year-old woman, who was a resident of Last Morh Gandhi Nagar, died of COVID Pneumonia in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, just 12 days after her husband died of the virus.
GMC Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh said body of the woman was packed as per COVID protocol for cremation.
Meanwhile, a student of Kasturba Gandhi Boarding School at Jathi in Doda district today tested positive for COVID-19.
The student returned to the school today after some days and was running high fever. The School Management called the Health staff and the boy tested positive for COVID-19. Later, his family was subjected to testing and all three members reported positive for pathogen.
All school staff members and students were also subjected to COVID testing and they reported negative for the virus.
However, the Health authorities have asked students and staff members to quarantine themselves in the hostel.
Officials said the student and his family members had travel history of Amritsar.
Meanwhile, 19 persons today tested positive for COVID-19 in the Jammu region, 15 of them in Jammu district, two Poonch and one each in Udhampur and Reasi districts.
Only two persons recovered from the virus today—both in Jammu district.
Jammu region now has 52247 Corona cases. Among them, 225 are active positives while 51291 have recovered from the virus and there have been 731 casualties in the region.
Among 731 casualties, the highest 378 have been reported in Jammu district followed by 64 Doda, 57 Udhampur, 55 Rajouri, 53 Kathua, 41 Samba, 24 Poonch, 22 Kishtwar, 21 Ramban and 16 in Samba district.
Meanwhile, 78 people today tested positive for COVID-19 while one person died in Valley.
One person who was suffering from COVID-19 died in Kashmir today taking the death toll in J&K to 1,976.
Those who tested positive include 53 from Srinagar, 8 Baramulla, 5 Budgam, 6 Pulwama, 1 Kupwara, 3 Bandipora, 1 Ganderbal and 1 from Kulgam.
The number of cases in the Kashmir division has reached 75,584 including 73,591 recoveries and 1,245 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 973 including 748 from the Kashmir division.
With 59 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 124,882, which is 97.69 per cent of the total cases.
Meanwhile, in a fresh spurt, the UT of Ladakh today reported 11 COVID positive cases including nine in Leh and two in Kargil district.
Ladakh now has 43 active positive cases including 38 in Leh and 5 in Kargil.
