SRINAGAR/ JAMMU, May 21: Pradesh Congress Committee, District and Block units besides other frontal organizations of the party paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 24th death anniversary in different functions organised across the State today.
On the occasion, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee organized blood donation camps both in Srinagar and Jammu today. Senior Party functionaries and workers from all the districts of Kashmir and Jammu region donated blood and paid glowing tributes to late Gandhi.
167 leaders and party workers donated blood in Srinagar while in Jammu 90 leaders and activists donated their blood to mark the day.
The Camp at Srinagar was inaugurated by Pradesh Congress Committee president and former Minister GA Mir.
While paying floral tributes to Late Rajiv Gandhi, Mir recalled his supreme sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the country. He was assassinated on this day at a young age and the country was deprived of a dynamic leader.
Mr Mir described him as architect of the 21st century India who brought the revolution in the field of Information Technology. Today India is leader in computer and IT in the world due to the vision of Rajiv Gandhi.
The Cong chief remembered the sacrifices given by the Gandhi family for the integrity and sovereignty of the country. He said that Gandhi family sacrificed everything for the country and people and worked for the development, peace, progress and prosperity of the country and never compromised on their principles.
Mir, however, expressed his dissatisfaction over the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Govt in the Country, stating that Gandhian ideology and pro people policies of this family are being thrown to the winds, as communal tension has already gripped the country, but he hoped that present NDA Govt will not succeed in implementing their communal agenda and wrong polices in the country and people will give them befitting reply.
PCC also paid rich tributes to former Mirwaiz Moulvi Farooq, Abdul Gani Lone and those Congress workers who were killed in Sher-i- Kashmir Park in 2006 on the same day.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, Gulam Nabi Monga, Mohd Anwar Bhat, Usman Majeed, Mohd Amin Bhat, Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Farooq Andrabi, Khemlata Wakhloo, Gulam Nabi Mir Lasjan, Shoiab Nabi Lone, Surinder Singh Channi, Hilal Shah, Shameema Iqbal, Abdul Gani Khan, Zahid Hussain Jan, Abdul Qayoom Shah, Gulam Mohd Ganie, Manzoor Ahmad Ganai, Abid Kashmiri, Irfan Naqeeb, Shameema Raina and Anayatullah Rather.
In Jammu, rich tributes were paid to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in a function held at Marble Market, in Trikuta Nagar Extension area. A blood donation camp was also organized at the venue, in which a large number of people donated blood.
The function was presided over by the senior vice president PCC Sham Lal Sharma and attended by CLP leader Rigzin Zora; former MP Madan Lal Sharma; vice presidents PCC – Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla, Kanta Bhan; general secretaries- Shah Mohammad Choudhary, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Yogesh Sawhney, Manjit Singh, Vikram Malhotra, Manmohan Singh, Namrata Sharma; Choudhary Akram (MLA); Indu Pawar- president Mahila Congress; Anil Chopra-president DCC Jammu (U); Pranav Shagotra- president PYC, Balwinder Singh Sambyal-chief organisor Congress Seva Dal; Swarn Lata, Kuldip Raj Verma, GL Chalotra, Shiv Dev Singh, Prakash Sharma, Krishan Chander Bhagat; Aslam Goni; Hari Singh Chib; S S Chib, Neeraj Gupta and Satish Sharma.
The speakers recalled the supreme sacrifice of Late Rajiv Gandhi for the unity and integrity of the country. The leaders described Late Gandhi as the architect of Panchayati Raj System in the country. The 73rd & 74th amendments of the Constitution was the result of the vision and efforts of late Rajiv Gandhi, which has brought power at the doorstep of the people.
Rajiv Gandhi lowered the voting age from 21 years to 18 years in order to ensure the youth of the country also participate in the electoral systems and take lead in politics to serve the nation with young ideas.
Congress leaders and party workers from Udhampur today participated in “Balidan Diwas” function in the memory of Late Rajiv Gandhi. A Blood Donation Camp was also organized to pay the homage to Late Gandhi. The District Congress Committee team also joined the main blood donation camp at Jammu.
The DCC and DYC team also paid visit to Old Age Home and distributed fruit and cloths among inmates. Vijay Manhas , Mohan Lal Kalsotra, Manav, Ravi Shastri, Shashi Manhas, Shankar Verma, Dev Raj and Madan Lal also accompanied.
Meanwhile, NPP Delhi unit in a meeting held today paid homage to Late Rajiv Gandhi who was assassinated 24 years ago on this day in Tamilnadu. Prof Bhim Singh while paying tributes to late Gandhi described him as a visionary leader. The NPP in a resolution also demanded that this day should be remembered as ” Anti-Violance Day” in the country.
