Gang exchanging old denomination notes busted, 3 arrested

JAMMU, June 29: Police busted a gang involved in exchanging old denomination notes with new currency and arrested three persons including a woman.
As per police sources, a complaint was lodged by Ajeet Kumar, son of Ram of Satwari with police station Bakshi Nagar stating that a team of three persons hailing from Delhi assured him that they will exchange the old currency with the new one on commission basis.
“I gave three old currency notes of Rs 500 denominations along with commission of Rs 100 each note to them, but they did not returned the new currency and ran away from the spot”, the complainant reported.
Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 89/17 under Section 420 and 34 RPC was registered against the three accused and manhunt was launched to arrest the fraudsters.
On reliable information, police team arrested all the three accused including a woman from Toph Sherkhani Morh after complainant identified them. Rs 8500 in old denomination notes were also recovered from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Ajay Karanwal, son of late JS Karnwal of New Delhi, Parveen Kumar, son of late Ved Parkash of Haryana and Babita, wife of Vijayender Singh of New Delhi.
During preliminary investigation, the accused revealed that they had came by air from Delhi to Jammu and are cheating people since last one and half year on the pretext of exchanging old denomination notes with new ones.
Further questioning of the accused is going on.
Police team led by SHO Bakshi Nagar Inspector Ashwani Sharma along with SI Rahul Mahajan, SI Deepak Thakur and SI Sumit Sharma made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO West Pranav Mahajan and SP City Dr Vinod Kumar.
