Gang of drug peddlers busted, 5 arrested

SRINAGAR, Apr 9: Police has busted a gang of drug peddlers operating in the city areas and five drug peddlers has been arrested with large quantity of prescription drugs meant for sale to the youth recovered from him.
A police spokesman said that on April 7 during the routine patrolling of police station Nishat, a police party noticed a person carrying a carton at Doodh Mohalla, Nishat. As soon as the person saw the police party, he tried flee from the spot leaving the carton behind. The Police party managed to apprehend him who was later identified as Ghulam Jeelani Shah son of Ghulam Rasool Shah resident of Gupkar-Nishat. On opening the carton, large number of Codeine Phosphate bottles and strips of Spasmo-Proxyvon were found in the box.
“Police Station Nishat registered a Case FIR No 19/2013 under Section 8/21 NDPS Act in this regard and the investigation was started. During investigation the accused gave more clues with regard to illegal drugs being sold to the youth. SHO P/S Nishat under the supervision of SDPO Nehru Park raided several places within Srinagar city and recovered large quantity of such drugs. During the raids, four more persons were arrested,” the spokesman said.
The spokesman said that large quantity of prescription drugs meant for sale to local youth which include 551 bottles of Codine Phosphate, 197 strips of SPASMO Proxyvon were recovered from them. Investigation of the case is going on.
