KANPUR, May 4: An inter-state gang smuggling ganja was busted here with the arrest of four persons, including two women, and the narcotic worth Rs 40 lakh in the international blackmarket recovered from their possession, police said.
The accused were identified as Jitendra Kushwaha and Dinesh Yadav, both hailing from Agra, Seema Gujjar, a native of Palwal in Haryana, and Shikha Rai from Delhi. They were arrested yesterday by Naubasta police near Yashoda Nagar bypass, a police spokesperson said.
The four, who were waiting for a car to pick them up, raised the suspicions of a police team which was carrying out vehicle checking nearby. They had two large bags and suitcases and when the police tried to inspect these they refused.
When the police searched the bags, they found 80 kgs of the drug, he said, adding that the four have allegedly confessed to working for a woman in Delhi and that they smuggled drugs to Haryana, UP, Punjab and Delhi.
According to the police, the accused had come from Delhi and were on their way back to the national capital. Each person used to earn Rs 4,000 per trip. (PTI)
