KATHUA, Nov 9: Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Prakash Ganga today visited Ghati to monitor ongoing land acquisition process for Industrial Growth Centre (IGC) in the district.
The Minister was accompanied by the Commissioner Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department, Shailendra Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Ramesh Kumar, Joint Director Industries Department Mushtaq Ahmed, General Manager SIDCO Vikas Gupta, GM DIC Kathua, Joginder Singh Rai, Suprintending Engineer SIDCO, D K Razdan, XEn SIDCO Parveen Pandoh besides other senior officers of the Industries and Commerce department.
The Minister was apprised about the ongoing land acquisition process by the department and other issues related to establishment of Industrial Growth Centre. He directed the concerned officers to put in their sincere efforts so that the centre could start functioning soon.
The Minister directed Deputy Commissioner to chalk out a comprehensive plan so that the complex could be converted into a special economic zone.
Emphasizing on the need to develop industrial sector in the State, the Minister said that the Government is committed to develop the industrial corridor from Kathua to Jammu so that the unemployed youth of the State could get more employment opportunities and also the economy of the state gets a boost. He said that the Power Development Department has assured augmentation of power supply to the complex.
Ganga said that the Government is putting in sincere efforts to develop industrial sector for overall development of the State and also informed that the Common Effluent Treatment Plant would also be installed in the complex to treat the water discharged from the units. “Priority would be given to the locals if they want to establish such units”, he added.
Later, the Minister also visited Industrial Growth Centre Samba to review the land acquisition process for Phase-III.
The Minister was informed that a total of 2762 kanal land would be acquired for Phase-III of IGC Samba.
The Minister directed ADC Samba to handover the land to Industries department for setting up the infrastructure including boundry pillars.
Meanwhile, Mr Ganga along with Commissioner Secretary Shalinder Kumar visited one of the prestigious manufacturing unit of the State, Shalimar Carpets at Bari Brahamana in their Machine Made Carpet Weaving Unit today.
The Minister was welcomed by Rakesh Bhat, Mananging Director of the Company and apprised him with the latest technology of carpet weaving. Commissioner Secretary Shalinder Kumar discussed the complete procedure of carpet weaving. Chander Prakash Ganga assured the management that a smooth working atmosphere would be provided to the industrialists for upgraging their existing industry as well as putting up of new units.
The Minister appreciated the efforts put by Rakesh Bhat who is a son of soil in transforming the handloom carpet weaving into the world’s latest machine made carpet weaving technology.
