KATHUA, Oct 20: Gangster Arun Choudhary alias “Abbu Jatt” has been shifted to another jail after his video from inside a prison in Kathua went viral on the social media platform Instagram.

The jail authorities claimed they have taken cognisance of the matter and registered an FIR under the relevant sections of the law and started investigation into the matter.
In the video, Choudhary claimed that he bribed a jail official to get the phone inside the jail premises.
Lodged in Kathua jail, Choudhary, a resident of Khour Deonian village of RS Pura area of Jammu district was arrested with three of his accomplices after an encounter in Punjab earlier this year for his alleged involvement in killing of Samba resident Akshay Sharma on December 25, 2023. He was later booked in case FIR number 93/2023 under section 302 of the IPC and Arms Act.
Superintendent Kathua Jail Koushal Kumar told the media persons that authorities have taken a cognisance of the matter and registered a case under the relevant sections of the law.
According to him, the area around jail is thickly populated and several incidents of mobile throwing into the jail premises have been reported in the past as well.
“While we’re investigating this matter, we’ve shifted Arun Choudhary alias Abbu Jatt to another prison,” he said.
On accused allegedly accusing in the Instagram video to have bribed the jail authorities to get the phone inside the jail premises, the officer replied: “He was habitual of threatening and harassing several police officers and officials within the jail premises in the past as well. He is doing this out of frustration.”
He said post the incident, the area around the jail has been sanitized to avoid recurrence of such incident.
