SAMBA, May 11: In a significant move to crackdown on criminal gangs operating in Samba district, the police have detained and imprisoned two notorious criminals, including the leader of the Gataru gang, Sumit Jandyal, alias Gataru, under the Jammu & Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA).
The detained individuals, Sumit Jandyal, famously known as Gataru, and Sourav Gupta, both sons of Om Parkash from Vijaypur district in Samba, have been booked under the PSA for their alleged involvement in organized criminal activities, posing a grave threat to public peace and order.
Operating alongside his brother Sourav and other gang members, Gataru has been implicated in various criminal activities, including attempted murder, robbery, breach of peace, extortion, cheating and land grabbing.
The Gataru gang’s notorious reputation stems from their involvement in numerous criminal cases across police stations in Samba and Jammu districts.
Following their continued engagement in criminal activities, the District Magistrate of Samba issued detention orders based on comprehensive dossiers prepared by SSP Samba.
Under the execution of SHO PS Vijaypur Insp Zaheer Mushtaq, the warrants were executed, leading to the incarceration of the accused in District Jail Kathua.
